1. What days can I water my lawn?

The District is requesting that customers continue to adhere to the voluntary watering conservation measures by watering only two days per week, choosing two of your three scheduled watering days that is linked below. Watering Schedule.

2. How much water does my lawn need?

Sometimes less is more. Overwatering is as much a problem as too little water. For detailed information on conservation and irrigation guidelines, please refer to the link below. 3. What are the shutoff / turn-on dates for the separate irrigation system?

The District's Mandatory Outdoor Irrigation Season is from April 15 thru October 15. If you are in an area of the District where your facility/home is on the separate irrigation system, District crews may partially shutdown the water source to this irrigation system after October 15. District crews will begin recharging the separate irrigation system in the spring beginning the week of April 15th. Separate Irrigation System.

4. What is the average hardness of our water?

The District’s primary water source comes from shallow alluvial wells that have been exposed to underground mineral deposits. The hardness of the water comes from naturally occurring minerals, primarily dissolved calcium and magnesium. The dissolved minerals result in your drinking water averaging 21 grains/gallon (359mg/L) hardness.

5. Do I need a water softener?

Water hardness can result in the buildup of white deposits (scale) in cooking pots or coffee makers, and reduce the ability to make suds for washing.

The amount of water hardness in the home can be managed with whole-house packaged water softeners or in-line softening devices. If you do feel you need to install a water softener, shop around for the best price and choose a company that will stand behind their product.

6. Does the District offer rebates for purchasing water efficient appliances?

South Adams County Water and Sanitation District (District) does not have a rebate program for purchasing high efficiency water appliances at this time. The District encourages the use of high efficiency products and water conservation practices to reduce the amount of water use, resulting in direct savings to our customers by lower consumption costs.

The District is committed to providing safe and efficient services at the lowest possible cost to its customers, which is reflected in water rates that are among the lowest in the Region.

Staff will continue to pursue grants that may become available in the future that would offset the cost of providing a rebate program.

7. How should I care for trees and shrubs during dry winter months?

According to the Colorado State University Extension horticulture experts, watering trees and shrubs periodically during dry winter months is highly recommended. 8. How can I protect my water pipes during the winter?

Outdoors – Water expands when it freezes causing pipes to split and fittings that fail...undetected ‘til Spring.
